CALMING SHOCK WAVES
A young woman claims severe toxic shock syndrome was caused by the use of Procter & Gamble's Tampax tampon and resulted in having her legs amputated. The local FOX news affiliate contacted P&G external relations on a summer Saturday afternoon for a statement. LT provided counsel on messaging, as well as provided the news team with clinical data that substantiated the safety and efficacy of tampons when used as directed. As a result, the segment delivered fair and balanced coverage and did not mention or depict the Tampax brand, but rather reported on how incorrect use of tampons may contribute to triggering TSS. The segment never aired nationally.
CLEANING UP A DIRTY STORY
Red Door's flagship New York City Spa was accused of using "filthy sheets" by the local Health reporter for a national network affiliate. The correspondent, with a reputation for sensationalized reporting, had gone "under cover" using swab tests to ascertain if various spa establishments were changing linens between guest treatments. Red Door had recently installed a state of the art laundry facility on the premises that exceeded local health codes, and management wanted to challenge the accusation. In response, Lippe Taylor contacted the segment producer and successfully communicated doubt about the reliability of the swab test in the case of Red Door. After re-examining the lab results, the producer admitted the evidence was not substantial and neither mentioned nor depicted Red Door in the story.
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
When an independently-held company terminated their CEO, LT provided media counsel to manage the boardroom shake-up. The newly appointed CEO, a woman who had spent over fifteen years at the company, brought internal insights previously untapped by former management. As the company was to go on the selling block, LT worked to quickly articulate the new CEO's vision to business and financial media. The media and messaging all underscored a commitment and plan for unprecedented growth. Within ten months, the company was sold in a transaction that exceeded expectations. |
